What makes a book stand out online or offline?

The answer is the cover, but is your cover design good enough to attract interest?

If you aren't a designer and thinking of creating the cover yourself, take a step back and ask yourself "do I have the skills to do my book justice".

A great book cover commands attention. So, why risk buyers skimming past it when they are looking for a book to buy? The truth is that first impressions count. Give them a reason to stop and find out more about your book.

I’ve been designing books and book covers for over 15 year, from Business books to Novels and for creatives, writers and poets. What I’ve seen over the years is that far too many people ‘have a go’ at creating their covers and falling flat, with an uninteresting and often confusion design. It is a factor that budget may be a consideration when creating a book, but it’s very important to think realistically about who the book is for and how it will be received. Think about the reason for making a book, is it to promote a business, a give-away at an event, to get you booked to give talks or readings, or is it a vanity project? If you are hoping to sell copies of your book, it makes perfect sense to have a great cover design and vastly increase the changed of people buying your book.

My advice, from my years of experience as a graphic and book designer, is that an investment in professional design, is an investment in your business or success as a writer.

If you have a book in planning or one that's almost ready to be published and you don't yet have a cover design, I'd love to have a chat with you.

A picture paints a thousand words, but a great cover sells them
